Cops investigating death in ‘pretty quiet’ area

Police are continuing to investigate a suspicious death after a man was found dead at a Vanier home early Thursday morning.

At approximately 4 a.m., police were called to a multi-unit home at 391 Dieppe St. just off of McArthur Road, where they found a deceased male.

The area surrounding the side door leading to Apt. 2 was cordoned off with yellow police tape while officers from the major crime unit investigated.

A police cruiser was parked in front of the two-storey house all day.

The death shocked people living on the quiet residential street.

Everest Howse, who lives across the street at 388 Dieppe St., said he knew a group of young people moved into the house about two weeks ago.

But he said people keep to themselves on the street.

“It’s pretty quiet here,” he said. “You never see any police cars here.”

While the death was shocking, Howse said he didn’t fear for his safety.

While most people on the street owned their home, the wooden house at 391 Dieppe St. was a rental, said his wife, Patricia.

“People live there a few months and then they’re gone,” she said. “It’s like a revolving door.”
Several houses down at 404 Dieppe St., a woman said she had been living in the neighbourhood for eight years and had never seen any sign of police activity.

“People keep to themselves,” she said.

A man living in the basement apartment at 391 Dieppe also said he didn’t know anything about what had happened upstairs, but did not comment further.

Police from the major crime unit declined to comment on the case, including the identity of the deceased.
