Cops say drivers still aren’t hanging up

Durham regional police say they continue to catch people with cellphones in their hands while they are behind the wheel.

Durham regional police say they continue to catch people with cellphones in their hands while they are behind the wheel.

Police say that between July 24 and Monday, they issued 94 provincial offence notices to motorists found holding or using cellphones while driving on a highway.

A law making it illegal to use hands-on cellphones while driving came into effect last October.

There was a three-month grace period before police starting handing out tickets.

Durham police say compliance with the law has been declining throughout this year.
