Cops say lock doors in wake of disturbing incident

An 18-year-old downtown-area woman had a rude awakening Sunday when she awoke to a man she didn’t know touching her.

Police said at approximately 6 a.m. on Jan. 25, a woman who was sleeping on her couch in an apartment complex in the 300 block of Chapel Street awoke to a man inappropriately touching her.

The suspect was confronted and left the apartment.

Ottawa police Staff Sgt. John McGetrick said police are issuing a public warning to let people know the incident happened in the downtown area and to remind people to lock their doors.

The suspect is described as an English-speaking white male, 20 to 25 years old, 6-1, with a large build and a round face with glasses.

He has short black hair, was unshaven and wearing jeans and a light coloured T-shirt.

Anyone with information is asked to contact police at 613-236-1222, ext. 5944.
