Cops seek more cash for digs

Ottawa police are looking to add nearly $500,000 to the design and construction budget of their new building at 19 Fairmont Ave. in Hintonburg.

The Ottawa Police Services Board originally approved a budget of $1,375,000 to renovate the building, with $575,000 for “tenant fit-up” and $650,000 for telecom and security upgrades.

A revised budget, expected to be presented to the board today, has tenant fit-up now costing an extra $707,000, while the security and telecom budget has been cut in half. The extra money would come out of the existing police budget.
