Cops seek person of interest in sex assault

Ottawa police have released photographs of a man in hopes the public will help identify a person of interest in relation to a sexual assault that occurred in the Sandy Hill area last month.

Police said yesterday they continue to investigate a sexual assault that occurred on March 1 in the 100 block of Daly Avenue.

At around 7 a.m., a male entered a residence and inappropriately touched a female who was sleeping, said Staff Sgt. John McGetrick with the Ottawa police sexual assault/child abuse unit.

A male captured on video surveillance has been identified as a potential person of interest in the investigation, but that’s not to say he is a suspect, said McGetrick.

“A person of interest is someone we want to talk to,” McGetrick said. “They could know something about a case.”

Anyone with information is asked to contact Ottawa police at 613-236-1222 ext. 5477 or Crime Stoppers at 613-233-8477 (TIPS).
