When Cpl. Christine Briand signed up to volunteer for a United Nations mission in Haiti, she knew she wanted to make a difference.
But at the time, the then-36-year-old officer with the RCMP’s A division didn’t know exactly how big of a difference she would make.
Nine months ago, Briand arrived to mentor Haitian National Police in their duties in the protection of minors and sexual assault unit.
But when the earthquake hit on January 12, “I helped everywhere I went,” she said. “Whether it was putting on a bandage or giving someone water or helping someone out of a building, I did it.”
