Vancouver city council approved $700,000 on Thursday to improve the facades of vacant storefronts in the Downtown Eastside and Chinatown.
The program provides grants of up to $50,000 to non-profit organizations to renovate the storefronts in exchange for favourable lease terms.
A previous phase of the plan saw six facades upgraded and six new tenants, the majority arts-based businesses, along a five-block stretch on Hastings Street.
The plan approved Thursday includes another six storefronts on Hastings and six others in Chinatown.
