Council candidates are going mobile

Trying to decide who to vote for in the upcoming election? There’s an app for that.

This morning, Beacon Hill-Cyrville candidate Tim Tierney is launching a text-based app called Talk2Tim, developed by local tech firm Zim.

Tierney is the first in Canada to be using the text-based service, but Coun. Michel Bellemare already has an app for the iPhone.

Aaron Helleman, a Kanata-South candidate, also has an app available on iTunes.

Brian Hurley, the CEO of Ottawa-based Purple Forge, developer of Bellemare and Helleman’s apps, predicts the technology will quickly become standard for any political campaign.

“The mobile apps can provide people with information much faster and timelier than other traditional media,” he said. “More than that, you can ask them to do something to help you.”
