While a Calgary alderman agrees accessibility to city council chambers could be improved, he said the cosmetic improvements being planned are too pricey.

Ward 12 Ald. Ric McIver said less expensive alterations could be made to accommodate people with disabilities — but the real cost cuts could come at the expense of cosmetic changes for council chambers, like the new desks, new electronics and new bathrooms, said McIver.

McIver was also concerned the report for the $1.5-million renovation didn’t differentiate between accessibility costs and cosmetic costs.
