Council races fill up, but school is out
With one month left to register as a candidate in the Ottawa municipalelection, most council races are getting packed, while the majority ofschool board zones have only two candidates or fewer.
With one month left to register as a candidate in the Ottawa municipal election, most council races are getting packed, while the majority of school board zones have only two candidates or fewer.
In fact, if the deadline were today, eight of the 10 zones in the Ottawa Catholic School Board would be acclaimed.
The Ottawa-Carleton District School Board has a few more races. Four out of 12 zones have candidates running unopposed and Zone 9 boasts three candidates.
Zone 9 candidate Susan Miller is trying to raise awareness with the general public to put their names forward before Sept. 10.
OCDSB vice-chair Pam Morse said, generally, there seems to be lower interest provincewide in running for school boards.
“I don’t think people should go into this looking at it as a stepping stone (to get into politics),” she said. “It is different work.”
