Council to hear analysis on homeless

Halifax regional council will hear a presentation on how best to deal with Halifax’s “homelessness crisis” tonight.

John Hartling, spokesman for Community Action Against Homelessness, said the 10-minute presentation will explore partnership opportunities for the municipality to help address the issue.

“We’re hoping we can provide some encouragement on (council’s) development of an affordable housing strategy,” he said.

Hartling said the municipality currently has staff examining such a strategy, and hopes his organization can play a part. He said a few councillors, including Coun. Jennifer Watts and Coun. Dawn Sloane, have been very supportive.

“We really want to work together in the future,” he said. “There’s some exciting developments that they have been engaged in.”
