Councillor calls for soft-surface urban trails

A Vancouver councillor wants to create a network of “soft surface” urban trails so that joggers and walkers have an alternative to joint-straining concrete sidewalks.

Urban trails could include rubberized surfaces on sidewalks and bark mulch pathways through parks.

“People would love it,” said NPA Coun. Suzanne Anton. “It will be one of those facilities that you’d build it and people would come.”

Anton said some preliminary mapping work has already been done, and is calling for a pilot project between Langara Golf Course and Queen Elizabeth Park in the next three years.

“Having good facilities for good health is one of the most important things we can do.”
