The Canadian Country Music Awards are returning to Vancouver after a 22-year absence.

The awards will be held here in 2009 along with the Canadian Country Music Association’s 2009 Country Music Week Sept. 11-14.

Stan Hegan, minister responsible for Tourism, Sport and the Arts, made the announcement yesterday at Cardero’s Restaurant in Coal Harbour.

Award-winning country music artists Lisa Brokop and Aaron Pritchett were on hand and entertained guests with acoustic renditions of new material.

"Winning the bid to host the 2009 Canadian Country Music Awards further solidifies B.C.’s growing reputation as the ideal location for holding national and international events," said Hagen. "We look forward to welcoming key players from the international music industry while spotlighting some of the extraordinary talent emerging right here in B.C."
