I’ve always loved Coastal Café — a cozy north-end neighbourhood café with creative breakfasts, great soups, imaginative sandwiches and excellent coffee.
It’s a comfy place with stools in the window for those who want to watch the world go by.
We order at the counter and our nicely presented food is quickly brought to our corner table.
I indulge in a Tempura Haddock Burger — a serving of fresh-tasting fish larger than its bun, flavoured with wasabi, ginger mayo and sesame peppers, and adorned with red onion, tomato and lettuce.
Accompanying it are excellent home-cut fries, thin and steaming hot, and a lovely green salad.
My friend chooses the day’s special sandwich — turkey, cheddar cheese and bacon on grilled foccacia. It’s delicious and accompanied by the same fries and salad.
She sips her pomegranate blueberry juice while I enjoy my tea and we wonder why we don’t come here more often.
