Crime reports flood CPS system

Since its March launch, Calgarians have reported more than 8,400 theft and property crimes to the CPS online reporting system, police said yesterday.

The online system allows residents to report theft, property loss or vandalism under $5,000 — all from their computers. This excludes auto theft and incidents with known or potentially identifiable suspects.

“There’s many times the police will pick up people with a car-load of stolen goods and this way we can marry up the property with the victims,” says Insp. Rob Williams.

An online crime-mapping feature that allows residents to trace the types of crimes committed in their area within the last six months is also available.
