THE SKINNY: Curtis Joseph was brought in cold off the Maple Leafs’ bench late in last night’s game and shut down the Washington Capitals to help his team to a 3-2 shootout victory.

GERBER TOSSED: Starting goalie Martin Gerber was ejected with a 10-minute game misconduct for lightly pushing referee Mike Leggo in protest of Washington’s tying goal with 57 seconds left in regulation.

CELEBRATION WATCH: Alex Ovechkin simply kissed his glove and pointed in the air after roaring around Luke Schenn and sliding the puck past Gerber for his 51st goal of the year in the second period.

ALEX BEING ALEX: Ovechkin again demonstrated his sense of humour prior to the game, wearing a “Coach’s Corner” T-shirt while kicking a soccer ball with teammates. It had the word “respect” written on the back.

ALEX BEING STUFFED: The play of the game came when Joseph robbed Ovechkin on Washington’s final shootout opportunity.

THE NEXT GAME: The Leafs head down the QEW to play Buffalo on Friday.
