Cullen confirms plans for a mayoral run

It’s not exactly an official announcement, but Bay Ward Coun. Alex Cullen has confirmed his intention to take a run at the mayor’s seat in the next election.

Cullen was on his way to a meeting when a reporter casually asked him if he would run for mayor.

“Having been asked the question directly. I wasn’t going to lie. I have been thinking about it for some time. I was intending on running for mayor,” he said.

“There is still more pieces to be worked on between now and the election year, because running for mayor is not a simple task. There is lots of work to be done, but the fact is, I intend to be a candidate.”

The question was likely prompted by Mayor Larry O’Brien’s recent statement that he would be running for a second term.

“While his focus is presently on transit, the redevelopment of Lansdowne Park and changing the way city hall operates, he is planning to run again in 2010,” said the mayor’s chief of staff, Eric Lamoureux.
