It was gridlock of a different sort yesterday as more than 13,000 cyclists took to the roads in Toronto for the Heart and Stroke Ride for Heart.

The 23rd annual ride closed both the Gardiner Expressway and the Don Valley Parkway for the morning while riders took to the 75 kilometre route. The foundation says the sold-out event raised $3.3 million.

The funds raised will support medical advancements, social change and education to help prevent death from heart disease and stroke.
