Dad charged with luring kids online

An Indian man who’s been living in Burnaby for several months has been arrested and charged with sexually luring children on the Internet, Vancouver Police said yesterday.

Ramreddy Yalaka, 37, was arrested at his home on July 23 after a month-long investigation where an undercover officer posed as a 13-year-old girl with whom he developed an online relationship.

Sgt. Tony Cavezza said Yalaka allegedly sent his supposed victim porn and “committed sexual acts” on a webcam.

The use of video only went one-way, Cavezza said.

Yalaka, who has a wife and child, has been released on bail under conditions.

Cavezza said the Ministry of Children’s Services was notified of the arrest and that Yalaka’s child is “safe,” but wouldn’t say if the family is still living together.

Det. Kate Caprarie, a member of the VPD’s vice unit, said Internet sex predators don’t usually give out their names or locations, so determining their identity is very difficult.

“That requires a lot of technical investigation for us,” she said.

“It’s like shooting a fish in a barrel.”
