Dad, son charged after assault at Canucks game

A Burnaby father and son were arrested after a 24-year-old female security guard was assaulted at the Canucks game Wednesday night.

Gareth William Franklin, 53, and William Neil Franklin, 22, are both charged with one count of assault causing bodily harm.

Two men, after being escorted from their seats for disruptive behaviour, were being walked out of the building by the female guard when the younger man became aggressive and unco-operative with her.

Just as the younger man was being let out of the building, the other man allegedly put the guard in a choke hold and forced her to the ground. She suffered no serious injuries.

Const. Anne Longley of the Vancouver Police Department said on Thursday the men were expected to appear in court that day.

“Charge approval went through this morning, so it’s likely they will see a judge sooner than later,” she said.

A spokesperson from GM Place said in an email that they will be co-operating fully with authorities, but would not comment further until the investigation is complete.
