The Dalhousie Tigers should find out within a week whether they’ve won the right to host the 2013 and 2014 University Cups.
Canadian Interuniversity Sport’s bid selection committee is reviewing proposals from schools hoping to host the annual men’s hockey championship, and Dalhousie is among six possibilities.
Alberta, Calgary, Regina, Saskatchewan and Nipissing in North Bay, Ont., are the other schools bidding for the University Cup.
“It’s probably a record,”said CIS chief executive officer Marg McGregor last month. “With so many schools in the running, it ensures whoever does get it will have a quality event.”
CIS spokesperson Michel Belanger said yesterday the successful bids are expected to be announced by next Wednesday.
The 2011 and 2012 University Cups will be held at the University of New Brunswick in Fredericton. UNB edged out Dalhousie in the last bid process.
Carleton University in Ottawa is also expected to be rubber-stamped as the successful bidder for the 2013 and 2014 Final 8 men’s basketball championship. Atlantic University Sport is hosting the even in 2011 and 2012 but didn’t apply this time around, leaving Carleton — the host from 2008 to 2010 — as the lone bidder.
