It’s a really exciting time for Danielle and Jodie Snyder, the sisters behind edgy-glam jewelry label Dannijo — a favorite of editors and celebrities alike (Beyonce, Blake Lively and Natalie Portman are just some of their fans). Not only did the girls present a collection for the first time during New York Fashion Week, but they also created the accessories for Vena Cava’s Fall 2011 runway show.
“Jewelry is really becoming the focal point of fashion, so it was the perfect time,” says Danielle. We hit her up for the details.
What accessories are you most excited about right now?
“We’re moving toward bohemian/tribal inspired statement jewelry — anywhere from intricate bibs to statement cuffs to interesting rings and the layering of rings and repetition. It’s really just sort of that bohemian layering and the interesting combinations of different types of jewelry together.
How did the collaboration with Vena Cava come about?
“We met the designers Sophie [Buhai] and Lisa [Mayock] at some fashion event and we hit it off. We started talking and they realized we were Dannijo and we realized they were Vena Cava, and they said, ‘We love your stuff,’ and we were like, ‘We love your stuff.’ We started visiting each other’s showrooms and started trading clothes for jewelry, and then in conversation they asked if we would do the jewelry for their collection. It was a natural partnership.
What was the inspiration for your Fall 2011 collection?
Our new collection is inspired by the warm, moody color palette of the cinematography in “Legends of the Fall” — I’m obsessed with that movie. Also, “Walden” by Henry David Thoreau — we were inspired by the down-to-earth nature, you know, going back to your roots and just making things that are simply beautiful. We did all the metalwork in a gold, brassy finish so pieces have that rustic, organic — and still very sensual — feel. Then we used Swarovski elements that gave the collection an interesting dynamic and made it a little bit more glam and dressy. That’s the nice thing about jewelry — it can be worn day into night and made casual or dressy depending on how you style it.
