Daredevils getting ready for extreme all-night riding

Solo and two-man mountain bikers will brave 400-foot vertical drops, rock gardens and the rough terrain of COP from 10 p.m. to 5 a.m. tomorrow.

“Any time we work with Red Bull we get excited, we love it,” said Canada Olympic Park spokesman Chad Hason.

Red Bull approached COP for the downhill portion of the course, as it’s one of the only venues that will allow an overnight race, said Hason.

First-place bikers take home $500 and 2011 seasons passes to COP’s bike park, while second- and third-place solo riders take home $300 and $150 each.

“As a sport venue we are in touch with athletes, and Red Bull is in touch with athletes,” said Hason.

Team competitors will complete the circuit in relay pattern, while solo riders race against the clock.

Bikers can register online for $20 until tomorrow at 8 p.m. to 9 p.m.

Solo riders race against time, while two-man riders run relays one at a time. The downhill course used for provincial races will be used as the main run.

Competitors will have eight hours to run the relay-like race.
