Dartmouth man among public art competition finalists

Three finalists from around the world, including one from Nova Scotia, will compete to create a piece of public art in front of a new downtown Halifax development.

Alexander (Sandy) Graham of Dartmouth, Lance Decker of Baltimore, Md., and Jonathan Leahy of Victoria, Australia, have been chosen by a jury of local artists, architects and community members, a Planning & Design Centre news release said yesterday.

Each finalist will receive $1,000 to further develop their ideas, the news release said. The overall winner will receive a $5,000 award and the right to complete their artwork, which will be installed outside The Trillium on South Park. W.M. Fares Group is the prime design consultant for the project, which is just starting construction.
