A Dartmouth businessman has been fined more than $50,000.

A Dartmouth businessman has been fined more than $50,000.

Derek Lawson Thomas pleaded guilty to four charges under the Income Tax Act and one charge under the Excise Tax Act of filing false returns.

The Dartmouth man was fined $50,682 in Dartmouth provincial court.

The Canada Revenue Agency said it laid charges after a probe revealed Thomas diverted commissions from the sale of medical and surgical products along with revenues earned through the rental of orthopaedic braces to bank accounts that were not turned over to his year-end accountants.
