Dartmouth native cut by Toronto Argonauts

Dartmouth’s Gordon Sawler was among the victims on the Canadian Football League’s cut-down day yesterday.

The Toronto Argonauts cut the St. Francis Xavier X-Men offensive guard as teams scrambled to get their rosters down to 53 players, including seven practice spots.

Darcy Brown of the Saint Mary’s Huskies was among those who survived the cuts. The sixth overall pick in May’s draft was vying for a fullback job with the Hamilton Tigers Cats.

In other CFL news, former Saint Mary’s all-Canadian defensive back Jeff Zelinski reportedly left the Saskatchewan Roughriders for school and work related reasons.
