Data breach exposes health info of 34K Quest Diagnostics patients

Quest Diagnostics is investigating a data breach on its Internet app that put the information of 34,000 patients at risk, the company said Monday.

A third party obtained the information by hacking into the Madison, N.J.-based company’s mobile health application, MyQuest by Care360, on Nov. 26.

The data includes name, date of birth, lab results and phone numbers in some cases.

“The information did not include Social Security numbers, credit card information, insurance or other financial information,” Quest Diagnostics said in a statement. “There is no indication that individuals’ information has been misused in any way.”

The company added that it is working with a cybersecurity firm to investigate the breach and evaluate its systems to avoid future attacks.
