Dead dog found stuffed in suitcase

The British Columbia SPCA is asking for help finding the owner of a female dog found dead and stuffed into a suitcase behind a Vancouver dumpster.

Passersby noticed the dog’s legs sticking out from the suitcase and called authorities.

The chocolate-coloured pit bull, who appeared to be about four, had been stuffed into a piece of black Kika luggage and left beside a dumpster in the south lane behind 254 East 12th Avenue.

“It is tragic to think that someone would just discard a poor animal like this,” said Eileen Drever, senior animal protection officer for the B.C. SPCA.

Drever said SPCA is investigating how the dog died.

“She had raw, bloody marks on her muzzle where it looks like nylon or perhaps wire had been tightly wound around her mouth.”

Drever said it is likely the dog, who also had scar wounds on her muzzle, was already dead when she was stuffed into the suitcase.

Anyone with information is asked to call the B.C. SPCA’s cruelty investigations department at 604-709-4670.
