Candidates in the municipal election spent the last few days leading up to today’s vote knocking on doors, waving at drivers and meeting with community organizations.
And if advance polls are any indication, Edmonton’s civic pride is strong and vibrant. After two weeks of advanced voting, nearly 18,000 Edmontonians have had their say on who will represent them on city council, according to the Office of the City Clerk.
That’s double the number of people who voted in advance in 2007, and more than any other Edmonton election in 20 years.
Voting stations will be open from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. City official Steve Thompson said voters will need government identification to cast their ballot.
“The easiest one, of course, would be your Alberta driver’s licence,” he said. “Anything that is a government-issued ID, especially if it has a picture and your birth date on it, is ideal.”
