Justice Minister Ross Landry told reporters on Thursday the province is getting closer to a decision on where to construct a new correctional facility.

“We’ve done the initial environmental assessment, and we’re now just following up to make sure that there’s no other further action in regards to the environmental issues need to be addressed,” he said.

The province is considering locations in Addington Forks in Antigonish County, Derbert in Colchester County, and Thorburn in Pictou County for the new 100-cell facility.

Landry said he expects a decision on the location sometime “in the very near future,” and construction to begin in the spring of 2011.
