A detailed safety analysis of Deerfoot Trail has been sidetracked until July of next year.
Aldermen grilled city transportation GM John Hubbell yesterday in council chambers, wondering why there is a delay in providing the report.
“There is just some disappointment, Mr. Hubbell, about us having to wait until July,” said Ald. Diane Colley- Urquhart.
Hubbell pointed at the recent release of a provincial government report as one of the ‘complicating factors’ to the delay, but added that initial reports indicate that, “the issues on Deerfoot are quite manageable.”
Alberta Infrastructure and Transportation bowed to public pressure about safety concerns on the Calgary speedway, launching its own review this fall.
The provincial report is anticipated to include a safety review, along with providing solutions to improve safety along the freeway.
The city also announced yesterday a series of initiatives to help improve traffic flow on Deerfoot Trail.
