It’s a busy day on the Halifax waterfront with tourists everywhere. Luckily most are occupied watching the nearby buskers, so the line-up at The Battered Fish is short.

This is not your usual mobile take-out. The selection is large and includes various seafood, as well as salads, chicken fingers, sausages, hot dogs and appetizers such as poutine and sweet potato fries.

My pal orders the two-piece Fish and Chips. The good-size serving comes in a box; the fish tastes fresh and the batter is light. The accompanying fries are of the thin, soft variety.

My Seafood Platter features haddock, as well as two coconut shrimp — nicely cooked and flavoured — and two huge, lightly-battered scallops. Only the clams disappoint as one has to dig through a lot of crispy batter to find a few tiny morsels. I try to make a dent in the heap of yummy fries, as we watch the ships sail by.
