Depp under the weather

Terry Gilliam’s The Imaginarium of Dr Parnassus seems to be one of those productions fraught with problems. The latest difficulty to beset the shoot revolved around actor Verne Troyer (aka Mini Me) who collapsed on the set after an alleged night of partying at a local strip club. The actor was hospitalized but quickly bounced back to resume shooting. Word is that Johnny Depp was apparently not feeling particularly well during his time on the shoot, either.

Meanwhile, Jude Law arrived in Vancouver last week the same day as Troyer’s mishap to shoot his sequences for the Gilliam film. With luck, Law will avoid the fate of his co-stars.

Welcome to Harper’s Island: Last week, out at UBC, the new CBS pilot Harper’s Island was shooting scenes. The story behind Harper’s Island starts off on a high note — a group of friends convene on an island in the Pacific Northwest near Seattle for a wedding — but quickly heads south when attendees are murdered one by one throughout the season. Jericho executive producer and National Treasure director John Turtletaub will oversee the project.

Smallville creators/producers leaving series: Smallville creators/executive producers Al Gough and Miles Millar are leaving the series after seven seasons in order to focus their attentions on feature film writing. Co-executive producers Todd Slavkin, Darren Swimmer, Kelly Souders and Brian Peterson will take over the reigns as executive producers of the Vancouver-lensed series and will serve as showrunners on the show’s upcoming eighth season for the CW Network.
