Even with Calgary’s growth slowing, the city and developers need to find a way to share infrastructure costs, says Mayor Dave Bronconnier.

Following a lengthy closed-door meeting with developers and homebuilders yesterday, Bronconnier said a subcommittee will be formed to help hammer out a new deal to pay for fire halls, buses and rec centres in new communities.

“There’s no doubt Calgary’s going to continue to grow and as long as were still growing we need to build infrastructure,” the mayor said. “Right now they’re not paying the full cost and we need to figure who pays.”

The talks come as an existing infrastructure financing agreement with developers is set to expire next year.
