Who will stand up for East Dartmouth-The Lakes residents in council chambers?
The answer to that question will soon be answered, as voters in District 6 will head to the polls Saturday to pick their favourite of seven candidates vying for the City Hall seat left vacant by former councillor Andrew Younger.
Younger jumped ship from municipal to provincial politics when he successfully ran for the Liberal Party in June’s election, becoming the MLA for Dartmouth East.
The candidates hoping to replace him are Robin Allen, Phil Brown, Shane Dafoe, Tracey Devereaux, Darren Fisher, John McMillan and Brian Warshick. Warshick has held the District 6 seat previously.
Advance polling started last Saturday and continues via telephone and Internet until 7 p.m. this Saturday. Residents can also cast their ballots by stopping by the East Dartmouth Community Centre at 50 Caledonia Road Saturday between 8 a.m. and 7 p.m.
A Halifax Regional Council report says this weekend’s special municipal election is expected to cost $85,000. There are about 13,000 eligible voters and close to 20,000 residents in East Dartmouth-The Lakes, one of 23 polling districts across the municipality.
