Do one thing and do it really well

When people are jamming into a tiny space for the sake of lunch, you know you’ve hit the jackpot.

La Taqueria is the perfect example of a restaurant specializing in one thing and doing it right. Authentic tacos made with mostly locally sourced ingredients.

Lineups zoom by. Service is lightning fast and unfailingly polite.

You can get takeout but you should eat in to get the full experience, from the campy Mexican décor to the countertop seating.

Get a plate of four tacos ($9.50 for meat and $7 for vegetarian). Everybody does.

My favourite is the de lengua, braised beef tongue. The meat is tender and comes alive with the lime-spiked guacamole.

Cochinita pilbil, pork in sweet and sour sauce, is fantastic with pickled onions.

As is the pescado, fish taco topped with lightly spiced salsa.

My only nitpick is the slightly dry birria, or lamb taco.

Wash it down with a horchata ($3) also known as rice water. It’s sweet and creamy.

La Taqueira es muy delicioso. Go now!
