Do opinions of constituents matter in a democracy?

I agree with Lawrence Martin’s column and I called Immigration MinisterJason Kenney’s constituency office to let him know that banning GeorgeGalloway was ridiculous and deporting war resisters like Kim Rivera waswrong.

Re: So much for free speech (March 24)

I agree with Lawrence Martin’s column and I called Immigration Minister Jason Kenney’s constituency office to let him know that banning George Galloway was ridiculous and deporting war resisters like Kim Rivera was wrong.

What happened? The woman who answered the phone argued with me, was rude and dismissed my comments.

Here I thought there was a minority government in power and as a citizen of Canada my opinions counted to MPs. I guess this is what “democracy” looks like now.
