CALGARY — A dog attacked its Calgary owners after the couple got into a heated argument, police say.

At about 8:55 p.m. Friday, a man and a woman in a common-law relationship had a verbal argument in their residence in the 600 block of Fonda Court S.E.

The couple, believed to be in their mid-20s, had two dogs in the home. One of the dogs, a pit bull cross, became agitated by the argument and began to attack both owners.

The man was eventually able to get the dog to the backyard and call for help.

The couple was taken to the hospital with serious bites all over their bodies, police say.

The dog was taken to Animal Services for safekeeping.

Both Animal Services and police are investigating.
