Bedbugs, roaches, windows without screens, cracked ceilings, cracking paint in stairwells, leaking plumbing and broken heating systems are among the problems tenants face in a troubled Toronto Community Housing complex near Dufferin Street and Davenport Road.

Yesterday, a mobile unit from the city’s municipal licensing and standards division was at the building as part of a program to audit conditions in 186 apartment buildings. Inspectors asked tenants to fill out repair forms and said they would return to check out the complaints and issue work orders.

Councillor Cesar Palacio (Ward 17, Davenport) said he’d hoped the audit would speed up repairs but was “totally shocked” inspectors refused to go into the apartments immediately to assess them.
