Re: April Lindgren’s column: Wind farm would be another ugly mistake (Jan. 30)
April Lindgren’s article demonstrates her understanding that saving the planet shouldn’t entail marring its beauty.
Toronto Hydro admits it can’t guarantee energy from a lakeshore wind farm would remain in Toronto to help keep our city green. As well, according to the 2007 Toronto Hydro financial statement, the wind turbine at Exhibition Place has run at 12 per cent of capacity since its inception. The Pickering wind turbine generating station’s five-year average output is just 17 per cent of capacity.
To despoil one of Ontario’s most scenic natural wonders for a cost-ineffective return shows an utter lack of respect for the environment and its human and animal inhabitants.
