Food for Life is launching a new initiative today: Lunch Money Tuesday. To honour National Hunger Awareness Day, Food for Life asks that people donate their “lunch money.”

People in Halton Region can make donations to Food for Life volunteers at the Oakville, Bronte, Appleby and Burlington at GO stations. Also, businesses in Halton will run their own version of Lunch Money Tuesday within their office.

A company representative will be asking co-workers to contribute to Food for Life. Since 1995, Food for Life has been collecting surplus fresh food from local grocery stores and restaurants seven days a week, 52 weeks a year. Food for Life delivers this food to more than 40 community agencies in Burlington, Oakville, Hamilton and Mississauga.

“No man, woman or child should have to go to bed hungry while stores, restaurants and other food suppliers are tossing good food in our landfills,” said George Bagaco, founder of Food for Life.
