Double the pleasure for Shakespeare fans

Calgary Shakespeare fans were treated to something special yesterday: the world premiere of Double Falsehood.

The newly attributed Shakespearean play was performed by Shakespeare in the Park’s 10-person cast, and will be performed again tomorrow until Friday and from Aug. 17 until Aug. 20.

“Double Falsehood uses our young company of actors — all students — so it’s an opportunity for them to premiere a brand new work, to be the first to perform the play,” said spokesperson James Bailey.

The theatre students hail from Mount Royal University, the University of Calgary, and the University of Alberta, he added.

Directed by program alumnus Haysam Kadri, each abridged, hour-long performance runs at noon at Prince’s Island Park and is free for the public to attend.

All in all, “it’s a good way to spend your lunch hour,” said Bailey.

Meanwhile, alternating 7 p.m. performances of Othello and Much Ado About Nothing continue until Aug. 21 (excluding Sunday). Reserved seats, $25, can be purchased at tickets.mtroyal.ca or 403-440-7770.
