Social media sites were abuzz Wednesday with iPhone and iPad owners not being able to download Apple’s new operating system, iOS 5. Down­loads would stop without warning, often sending a mysterious message, “Error 3200.”

Apple fans, who had been gloating about the reliability of their smartphones in the face of a multi-day outage of BlackBerry service, were left fuming. User forums were flooded with frustrated accounts of aborted downloads.

Apple’s flagship store in New York City was mob­bed by people whose iPhones had been “brick­ed” (rendered inoperable) from an aborted download, according to Apple Insider.

By Thursday morning, the mood on Twitter had lifted, as users began exploring a bundle of the new features on iOS 5.
