Dozens of cars’ tires slashed

Vandals stirred up the residents of a northeast Calgary community, as they woke to find several dozens vehicles victimized in a three-block area.

Brenda Lees was preparing to go to a job fair yesterday morning when she got the news.

At about 9:30 a.m., a neighbour notified Lees and several other homeowners in the 900 to 1200 blocks Rundlehorn Close NE in the Sunridge Village complex that their tires had been slashed.

“I’m mad,” Lees said. “I’m not working so I can’t go out and buy a new tire.”

Lees hopes that whoever did it fesses up, but realizes there is a slim chance of this happening.

“It upsets me,” Lees said. “I’ve lived here 10 years and never had any problems.”

All tires that were slashed appeared to be the back right and vehicles were underneath carports.

Sgt. Tim Dumur from the Calgary Police Service said he hasn’t seen anything like this for at least three years.

Dumur said that approximately 30 vehicles were vandalized and there were not all from the Sunridge Village complex, but also in the neighbouring streets such as 38 Street NE.

Dumur said there are no suspects and no one saw the vandalism occur.
