Dozens of leagues, one big community

Neighbourhoods across the city will be abuzz with barbecues, concerts and family activities as Community League Day is set for this Saturday.

Garage sales, harvest fairs, ball hockey and pancake breakfasts are some of the events being planned, with details being revealed by the Edmonton Federation of Community Leagues yesterday in Churchill Square.

Every league was encouraged to participate by hosting an event on this date, creating a citywide community league festival. It also gives people a chance to get to know other residents in their various communities across the city.

“We have just over 90 leagues that are taking part,” said EFCL executive director Allan Bolstad.

Concerts and festivities are the plan for Riverbend, and local league member Cheryl Bowhay said the fun things going on in that part of town wouldn’t be possible without friends and neighbours chipping in.

“We really are thrilled with the support we had,” Bowhay said.
