Three years ago, an appearance on Canadian Idol changed Tara Oram’s life. Sort of.

The Brampton, Ont. resident is making music for a living, full-time. She released her first album, Chasing the Sun, in 2008 and is working on a second.

But she’s still the same girl, Oram told Metro yesterday. After all, she’s been performing since she was 10 years old.

“Now, I’m doing what I love, but I don’t really see how people can change,” she said. “The only thing that changes is your lifestyle, and sometimes, people around you change, or look at you differently. Maybe life is more enjoyable now, because I’m doing what I love.

“I’ve spent my whole life trying to get to this point.”

When she takes the stage at Capital Hoedown tomorrow night, Oram will be performing some of her favourites, as well as material from her upcoming album.

“Being able to perform songs before recording them is great,” she said. “I want to make the album as great as possible. I want it to be a reflection of me and the music I love and want to represent.”
