Fitness boot camps might be getting more business than usual this wedding season given the hot new style for gowns — sleek, slim and ultra form-fitting.

Samira Astifo, owner of Sposa Wedding World in New Westminster and White Rock, said last season’s trend of voluminous gathered skirts has been replaced with high mermaid and trumpet skirts.

“There are fewer A-lines and more fitted dresses that are very elegant and sexy,” Astifo said. “Lots of lace, strapless (dresses) and empire waists.”

Astifo said dresses this year tend to be very detailed, and are balanced out with simple accessories and jewelry. Some brides are wearing flowers in their hair in lieu of veils.

“Uneven diagonal ruching and patterns (are also popular),” said Astifo. “It’s very slimming and doesn’t emphasize the hips.”

Starting early

Order your wedding dress eight months to one year ahead of time, as they usually take at least six months to be made.
