A Calgary MLA wants put a stop to excessive idling so as to decrease Albertans’ environmental impact.
Dave Taylor, independent MLA for Calgary-Currie, has proposed a private member’s bill, which would require motorists to shut off their cars, except in weather below -23 C. Emergency vehicles and public transportation vehicles would be exempt.
Taylor said idling for more than 10 seconds produces more emissions than starting one’s engine.
If the bill goes through, Bill 230 would come into effect on Jan. 1, 2011. The current session at the legislature will end on Dec. 2.
