Driver killed in car crash near Sheet Harbour

A 51-year-old woman died in a single car crash Tuesday on Highway 374, northeast of Sheet Harbour.

Police, paramedics and fire fighters
responded to the scene just after 2:30 p.m. in the area of Malay
Falls and Lochaber Mines, which are part of Halifax County, said RCMP
spokesman Cpl. Joe Taplin.

He said the woman, who was driving the car when it crashed, was ejected from the vehicle. She died on the scene.

“There was a passenger in the vehicle and
they were taken to . . . hospital with minor injuries,” Taplin said.
The RCMP later reported that the passenger was a 40-year-old woman.

Taplin said Highway 374 would remain
closed for “an extended period of time” while traffic reconstruction
analysts try to figure out what caused the deadly incident.

Police said they won’t release the victim’s name until her family is notified.
