Edmonton police have laid charges in connection
with a traffic fatality that occurred January.

At about 9:20 a.m. on Jan. 28 a taxi was crossing the intersection
at Windermere Boulevard and Terwillegar Drive, police say, when
it collided with an SUV.
A 40-year-old female passenger in the front seat of the taxi
died at the scene of the collision due to severe injuries. The taxi
driver sustained serious injuries as well, including a broken back.

Police reported today that a lengthy investigation has revealed the SUV struck the taxi at
a high rate of speed. At the time of the collision, the four-way
intersection was controlled by a stop sign.
A 38-year-old man has been charged with driving carelessly and speeding and a 49-year-old man has been chared with driving carelessly and failing to proceed safely after stopping.
